The Seiko Lord Matic Special 5216-8010 sits at the intersection of great 1970s Seiko design and serious mechanical watchmaking.

Produced in 1975, the LM Special represented a more ambitious side of the Lord Matic line. Inside is Daini Seikosha’s 23-jewel caliber 5216, a high-beat automatic running at 28,800 bph with manual winding, hacking seconds, and quick-set day and date.

But the dial is the star. Its deeply textured radial finish shifts from dark teal to brilliant blue as the light moves across it. Large faceted hour markers and hands give the watch remarkable depth, while the gold LM emblem and framed English/Kanji day-date leave no doubt about its Japanese origins.

The angular stainless-steel case and distinctive Seiko LM bracelet are pure mid-1970s design, giving the watch considerably more presence than its approximately 36mm diameter suggests.

This example dates to April 1975 and presents especially well, with a remarkably clean dial and strong case definition.

Technically interesting, visually fearless, and unmistakably Seiko, the 5216-8010 is an excellent example of just how good the company’s mechanical watches had become as the quartz revolution was beginning to reshape the industry.

Condition Report

This 5216-8010 presents exceptionally well for a watch produced more than 50 years ago. The blue dial is remarkably clean and retains the vivid, shifting color and fine radial texture that define this reference. Applied markers, hands, dial printing and the gold LM emblem remain crisp.

The stainless-steel case and bracelet show normal surface wear consistent with age and use. The case retains strong geometry and definition, while the caseback engraving remains clearly legible. Please review the detailed photographs as they form an important part of the condition description.
